I am forced to contrast the Abhishek Bachchan-starring Disney Hotstar movie with Prateek Gandhi’s 1992 Scam on MX Player. The audience of 2020 enjoys the more recent portrayal of this greatest stock broker because it was more accurate and thoroughly studied. Harshad Mehta was portrayed by unknown director Kookie Gulati as being larger than life.
The readers of this article who were born in the late 1960s and early 1970s have seen and known Mr. Mehta. Although the middle class in 1990–1992 benefited from his efforts/manipulations, he cannot be credited with creating the nation’s economy.
The then-FM’s liberalization policies are partially to blame for getting the Indian economy back on track. Although I wouldn’t describe Mr. Mehta as an organized criminal, identifying flaws in the current system purely for your own gain does not make you a hero.
Dramatic liberty is acceptable, but giving someone a fantastical appearance is far from the fact. A Gujrati director most likely wouldn’t have acted in this manner. Abhishek Bachchan’s portrayal of Mr. Mehta now resembles DBA of Guru in terms of mannerisms, attire, dialogue delivery, and everything else. Actress Ileana D’Cruz has improved.
Although Nikita Dutta was good as Abhishek’s wife, she was always depicted as being young while Abhishek was depicted as aging. Supriya Pathak was a waste of time. Mahesh Manjrekar and Ram Kapur don’t have much to do. The character that would impress you is Sohum Shah as the younger brother.
