In addition to Joel McHale and Giovanni Ribisi playing supporting roles, the movie stars Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. Seth MacFarlane provided the voice and motion capture for the title character. The movie depicts the tale of Boston native John Bennett, whose wish as a boy summons his teddy bear pal Ted to life. But as they get older, Ted and John’s bond starts to impede the development of John’s romance with Lori Collins.
Ted Story
The comedy movie Ted from 2012 centers on Boston native John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), whose wish as a boy brings his stuffed bear companion Ted to life. However, as they get older, Ted and John’s bond starts to obstruct the development of John’s connection with Lori Collins (Mila Kunis), who is now his girlfriend.
Eight-year-old John Bennett wants Ted, the giant teddy bear he received for Christmas in 1985, to come to life and become his best friend. The wish comes true just in time for a shooting star, much to the momentary shock of his parents.
Ted briefly gains notoriety as a result of word-of-mouth. 27 years later, John, who is now 35, and Ted are still in Boston, where they continue to be close friends leading hedonistic lives. Lori Collins and John started dating after they met at a dance club.
Ted makes Lori laugh at first, but she soon grows annoyed by his juvenile actions and his persistent involvement in John’s life. She issues John with a choice: get rid of Ted or she will leave him. Between his friendship with Ted and his love for Lori, John struggles.
John ultimately makes the decision to fire Ted. He understands that he must mature and begin living a real life with Lori. Ted is sorry to see John leave, but he knows it’s for the best. He gives John a new teddy bear to give to Lori and their future children as a parting present.
Be cautious what you wish for, is the story’s lesson. John’s ambition to possess a living teddy bear was granted, but at a cost. Although Ted was a continual source of amusement, he was also very disruptive. In the end, John understood that in order to move on and start a real life, he had to let Ted go.
With over $542 million in global box office receipts, Ted was a critical and financial success. The movie received plaudits for its heart, humor, and message about the value of friendship. A follow-up, titled Ted 2, was made and released in 2015.
