It was co-produced by Noble Babu Thomas through Big Bang Entertainments and Visakh Subramaniam through Merryland Cinemas. Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Darshana Rajendran are the movie’s main actors. Hesham Abdul Wahab composed the music for the movie as well as the background score.

Vineeth Sreenivasan wrote and directed the coming-of-age romantic drama movie Hridayam in the Malayalam language in 2022. The story revolves around the life of Arun Neelakandan, a young man who experiences many highs and lows, including love, loss, and self-discovery.

Arun Neelakandan (Pranav Mohanlal) enrolls at KC Tech, a well-known engineering college in Chennai, at the start of the movie. At first sight, he falls in love with his college lover Darshana (Darshana Rajendran). After Arun is teased by his seniors, they become closer, but after a few fights and mishaps, the seniors are punished, and they begin dating.

Arun goes with his friend Antony to meet his virtual fiancée and develops feelings for her coworker. She believes him when he says he is single, and they lean in for a kiss before the moral police break it off. Arun confesses to Darshana while feeling guilty, and she enragedly breaks up with him.

Arun experiences heartbreak and descends into depression. He develops a drinking problem, begins ragging juniors, and dates Maya (Kalyani Priyadarshan). He is not content with this relationship, though. He finally comes to the realization that he still has feelings for Darshana and strives to win her over.

After some initial hesitation, Darshana decides to give Arun another chance. They tie the knot and begin a family. However, they experience only fleeting happiness. A few years after receiving a cancer diagnosis, Darshana passes away.

The passing of Darshana has crushed Arun. He experiences a severe depressive episode and nearly loses the will to live. He ultimately manages to get back up and carry on with his life, though. He establishes himself as a thriving photographer and begins a family with a different woman.

A touching tale of love, grief, and personal growth is Hridayam. Long after you’ve watched it, you’ll remember this movie.

Hridayam offers its version of a joyful university life and a chance for those who miss it to reflect on their younger years at a time when college students rarely get to explore their campus or develop friendships.

Soon after enrolling in college in their first year, Arun (Pranav Mohanlal) and Darshana (Darshana Rajendran) start to fall in love. Despite their intense love for one another, they are not too savvy to avoid the typical traps of collegiate romance.

As the story develops, the relationships—friendship, love, and otherwise—go through various periods of transformation. The remainder of the film focuses on Arun’s transition into the following stage of life and how he manages its development into other ages.

The many moods, flavors, and vibes of the city are deftly integrated into the tale as Hridayam seeks to provide a genuine, coming-of-age representation of a Malayali’s campus life in Chennai. Those who have studied engineering in the city may connect with it the most strongly.

After a brief first phase of following the crowd, Pranav’s character can be seen as the ideal paradigm of Malayali engineering students who try to forge their own way on campus and in life.

Yes, they begin on a well-traveled path, but they soon come to the realization that this is not what they want. Pranav, Darshana, and other actors’ performances bring forth the film’s intriguing emotional core, which makes spectators’ hearts softly tug.

Pranav, who is the star of both half of the movie, has unquestionably improved as a performer with Hridayam. The movie contains a lot of meaty tunes that are all strategically arranged.

With 172 minutes of running time, the film may have been cut shorter for a stronger effect, especially in the second half. Additionally, there are times when the narrative may seem overly straightforward and familiar, especially to those who graduated from college in the early 2000s. Arun’s life sometimes follows an overly comfortable path from collegiate romance to finding the perfect career to being a family man.

Although life presents him with new obstacles, he doesn’t seem to have undergone much change, despite a few conversations that attempt to portray a transformed guy. In light of the fact that Kalyani entered the protagonist’s life after he had already had one instance of the traditional meet-cute relationship, her character may have benefited from a little more depth development.

If you don’t care too much about character development, this is the kind of movie you would leave the theater with a smile on your face, funny campus memories, and possibly a song on your lips.
